May 2, 2012—Garmin (NASDAQ: GRMN), the world’s leading satellite navigation company, today proudly announced that Garmin has achieved cumulative global sales of over 100 million units in various satellite navigation applications, including professional fields such as aviation, marine, geophysical surveying, and hunting, as well as popular consumer applications such as automotive, running, cycling, travel, and golf.

Garmin President and COO Cliff Pemble stated, “This is a very important milestone in Garmin’s history. In just 23 years, Garmin has grown from a small startup to a globally recognized leader in navigation. We remain committed to advancing GPS technology while continuously expanding our markets and innovating our products. Our achievements today would not be possible without our partners and customers. We are also fortunate to have a passionate team of employees with big dreams and strong execution capabilities. Most importantly, we have a loyal user base that loves Garmin products—their feedback has continuously helped us create safer, more accurate, and more enjoyable products.”

When Garmin was founded in 1989, it was just a small company made up of a few engineers with big ambitions, aiming to integrate GPS satellite positioning technology into people’s daily work and lives. In 1991, Garmin sold its first GPS navigation product. Six years later, in 1997, it reached 1 million units sold. By 2007, Garmin had cumulatively sold 25 million navigation products. And then, in just five short years, we surpassed the 100 million unit sales mark!

In addition to continuing development in diversified areas such as in-car/portable navigation products and advanced marine and aviation navigation, Garmin is also dedicated to deepening its presence in emerging markets such as China, India, and South America—investing in local automotive manufacturers and making strategic acquisitions to integrate various technologies.

To celebrate the milestone of surpassing 100 million units sold, Garmin has specially designed a commemorative logo, which will be printed on Garmin product packaging and manuals, featured on Garmin’s official website, and made available to all our dealers.
