The “Taichung MRT Green Line” removes fences; trial operation scheduled for the end of 2018

Construction of the Taichung MRT Green Line is underway. The fourth phase, involving the removal of fences along both directions totaling 9.26 kilometers, has been completed on schedule, significantly improving traffic flow on Jianguo North Road to and from the high-speed rail station. The Taichung City Transportation Bureau also stated that the Taichung MRT Green Line is expected to begin trial operations by the end of 2018.

The Taichung City Transportation Bureau explained that during the early stages of MRT construction, the installation of fences for bridge work led to lane reductions, causing traffic disruptions on major roads in Taichung such as Wenxin Road and Jianguo North Road, negatively impacting both commuters and the quality of life for residents along these routes. After confirming that the upper structure of the MRT was completed and there were no safety concerns, fence removal began in February last year to return the roads to the public as soon as possible. To date, a total of 18.9 kilometers of fencing along both directions have been removed, achieving a completion rate of 64%.

In addition, sections along the Green Line route have been included in the “Smooth Roads Project” by the Taichung City Construction Bureau. Jianguo North Road in the southern district, which runs alongside the MRT Green Line, has entered the design phase. Once all fences on Jianguo North Road are removed, work will continue on road surface improvements to create a more comfortable and convenient traffic environment along this section.
