Special dispatch from Everest Base Camp (Reporters: Zou Jin, Cao Zhikai) Yesterday noon, ten yaks loaded with climbing supplies left the base camp for the advance camp. The China University of Geosciences mountaineering team’s Everest climbing activity is about to enter its most critical summit push phase.
The ten yaks transported a large quantity of supplies, including eight gas cylinders, eight boxes of beverages, as well as a variety of vegetables such as green peppers, cauliflower, and potatoes. It is reported that these supplies will be delivered to the advance camp at an altitude of 6,500 meters, where the high-altitude chef will prepare meals for the team members from China University of Geosciences. From Camp C1 at an altitude of 7,028 meters onward, the climbers will have to rely on instant food for sustenance.
Dong Fan, the overall commander of the China University of Geosciences mountaineering team, introduced yesterday that the transport team will leave the base camp tomorrow to carry out preliminary transport work at the high-altitude camps. The team includes five high-altitude guides as well as the team leader Ciluo and team member Deqing Ouzhu, among a total of 11 people. In a few days, the remaining team members will also set off.
“If all goes well, we will stay on the mountain until we successfully reach the summit,” said Dong Fan. “This also means that this Everest climbing expedition has officially entered the summit push phase.”
