In the past, Okinawa, Aomori, and Tottori were the only three prefectures in Japan without 7-Eleven stores. However, by mid-to-late 2015, both Aomori and Tottori had opened 7-Eleven outlets, leaving Okinawa as the only prefecture in Japan without one. But in 2018, 7-Eleven plans to open 300 stores in Okinawa.
Currently, FamilyMart dominates the Okinawan market, along with locally partnered convenience stores, totaling 269 outlets. LAWSON has 191 stores, and both chains are expected to expand to 300 and 200 stores respectively by the end of 2016. To capture 35% of the market share, 7-Eleven plans to grow to 300 stores after opening in 2018. For travelers, this not only adds shopping convenience but also makes it easier to purchase items such as Hada Labo skincare products.
