“There’s a super huge bicycle being displayed near Zhanqiao Pier — its front wheel is even taller than I am!” On the afternoon of May 19, both tourists and locals strolling around Zhanqiao were drawn to a giant bicycle located on the west side of Zhanqiao Square. Reporters rushed to the scenic plaza on the west side of the pier and found two middle-aged men taking turns riding an oversized bicycle to show it off to passersby.
The most eye-catching part of this bicycle is its front wheel, which has a diameter taller than many adults, while the rear wheel consists of two very inconspicuous small wheels placed side by side, with a diameter of less than 50 centimeters.
“I invented this bicycle last October — it’s the largest in Asia. The front wheel has a diameter of nearly two meters,” said Zhang Lianjun, the creator from Hebei Province. He told reporters that the front wheel was specially imported from abroad. In addition, the bike is equipped with a loudspeaker and speakers. “It took nearly a week just to design and install these audio devices. The entire process of making the bicycle took me about three months.”
Having set off 17 days ago from Tangshan, Hebei, Zhang Lianjun and his team — consisting of friends and family — have now traveled through cities including Shijiazhuang, Beijing, Binzhou, Jinan, and Weifang, with Hong Kong as their final destination. “We’re planning to spend a total of three and a half months on this trip, aiming to visit 100 cities across China.”
