A tabletop exercise is a method of testing the feasibility of a plan through verbal simulations indoors. But can such a virtual scenario truly provide reliable assurance for the smooth running of an event? Let’s take a look at the discussion among the rock climbing team.
During the tabletop exercise, staff members started with the finer details and thoroughly examined every aspect of the event operations. Take athletes' meals, for example — will they eat in the venue during their lunch break or return to the Asian Beach Games Village? Where will they get water, and what kind of water will be provided? Will snacks be available within the venue area, what fruits can be offered, and where will those fruits come from? Every question was addressed in detail.
In addition to the athletes' dietary concerns, technical experts on site also raised many detailed questions. For instance, questions were asked about the training schedule, requiring designated personnel to effectively manage training times and the number of participants from each competing country and region, as well as to plan training activities at various time slots throughout the training period. In response to the various issues raised by the experts, the on-site staff promptly formulated the next steps in the event preparation plan.
According to the event organizers, the rock climbing competition will officially kick off on June 17th, during which 75 athletes from 11 countries and regions including China, Japan, and South Korea will compete for the gold medals. (Reporters Yi Zhe & Che Chengxuan)
