To promote ski mountaineering in China and enhance the overall level of the sport both nationally and across Asia, the Chinese Mountaineering Association plans to hold the 2012 Qinghai Gangshika National Ski Mountaineering Exchange Conference from June 2 to June 9, 2012, at the Gangshika Mountain in Menyuan Hui Autonomous County, Xining City, Qinghai Province. The event is jointly organized by the Chinese Mountaineering Association and the Qinghai Provincial Sports Bureau, and hosted by the Mountaineering Center of the Qinghai Provincial Sports Bureau.
It is reported that the conference will adopt a format of training and exchange (with skill competitions scheduled as appropriate). During the conference, various types of training will be conducted, including high-altitude acclimatization training, alpine group climbing, high-altitude glacier descent training, equipment operation, snow slope climbing techniques, avalanche search and rescue, and mountain rescue—making it a comprehensive learning and exchange experience in ski mountaineering. Participants will also be grouped according to their overall abilities to take part in competitions in areas such as mountain rescue, route setting, and trekking, allowing them to further solidify their professional knowledge and skills through competition and enhance their overall capabilities in ski mountaineering.
