Report (by Yao Fengzhen): On May 21, the Farming University Peak Cloud Society, a member club of the College Students' Tourism Practice Camp under the China All Media Alliance of Universities, held a 2012 Karuxiong Peak Climbing Defense Meeting at China Agricultural University. The meeting introduced their plan to climb Karuxiong Peak this summer with the theme of “Investigating Plant Diversity in Southern Tibet.”
The climbing team leader Xiang Xiling and climbing captain Li Yuehui gave detailed presentations on the pre-climb preparations, team building, climbing plans, and the investigation program for plant diversity in southern Tibet. There were two major highlights of this mountaineering activity: first, the climbing team collaborated with the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, to carry out the climb with the theme of “Investigating Plant Diversity in Southern Tibet,” and invited Yang Yongping, deputy director of the institute, to serve as an academic advisor for the scientific research aspect; second, Zhang Hui, a teacher from China Agricultural University, was invited to serve as a physical training advisor to help climbers undergo professional training tailored to this physically demanding climb.
Qin Ying, deputy secretary of the Youth League Committee of China Agricultural University, Huang Chungui, alpine director of Extreme Experience, Liu Yanlin, a 2010 Karuxiong climbing team member and president of Peking University’s Mountain Eagle Club, along with veteran members of the Peak Cloud Society, raised questions based on their own experiences regarding the preparations for this climb and the special conditions of the mountain. The two captains answered them one by one. Qin Ying stated that the Peak Cloud Society’s twelve-word climbing spirit — “endurance, teamwork, courage to win, and striving for the summit” — is commendable. She hopes that members will maintain a positive and upward mindset and also wished the Peak Cloud Society a successful 2012 Karuxiong Peak climbing expedition.
In 2010, all members of the Peak Cloud Society climbing team successfully reached the summit of Karuxiong II Peak (6,325 meters above sea level). Karuxiong Peak, standing at 6,674 meters, is located at the border between Jiangzi County in Shigatse Prefecture and Langkazi County in Shannan Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region. The peak has a mid-to-low difficulty level, a long snow line, diverse terrain, and numerous crevasses, making it suitable for clubs to conduct snow and ice technical training.
