According to news from the Chinese Mountaineering Association, the 2012 National Mass Mountain Climbing and Fitness Conference (Wendeng Station) and the 2nd Weihai Kunlun Mountain Happy Mountain Climbing Festival were recently held in Xinzhuan Village, Jieshi Town. Over 3,000 male and female participants from Shandong, Liaoning, Shanxi, Hebei, Henan, and other regions began their ascent toward the main peak of Kunlun Mountain—Taizi Peak, which stands at an elevation of 923 meters and is 7 kilometers away.

　　The National Mass Mountain Climbing and Fitness Conference was jointly organized by the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Chinese Mountaineering Association, the Shandong Provincial Sports Bureau, and the People’s Government of Weihai City, and was hosted by the Weihai Municipal Sports Bureau and the People’s Government of Wendeng City. Wang Yongfeng, Deputy Director of the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China and Vice Chairman of the Chinese Mountaineering Association, Xu Dayi, Full-time Vice Chairman of the Shandong Provincial Sports Federation and Chairman of the Mountaineering Association, and Tian Zhiying, Vice Mayor of the People’s Government of Weihai City, attended the opening ceremony.

　　This mountain climbing conference was held concurrently with the 8th China・Weihai (Wendeng) Kunlun Mountain Cherry Festival. The event was designed as a non-timed competition, allowing mountain climbing enthusiasts and tourists from across the country to enjoy the natural scenery amidst green mountains and clear waters, savor the natural delicacy of red cherries, and experience the unique charm of the earthly paradise that is Kunlun Mountain, all while embracing a healthy lifestyle.
