Indeed, over the past few days, the beauty of Gangshika has won over many seasoned athletes. Many have fallen deeply in love with the place and hope that the Gangshika Mountaineering and Skiing Exchange Conference will continue to grow, providing them with a platform for exchange and showcasing their skills.
With so many people placing such high hopes on Gangshika, how should it develop in the future? How can it become a sacred site for more mountaineering and skiing enthusiasts from home and abroad?
Feng Jianping, Director of the Qinghai Provincial Sports Bureau, noted that Gangshika Snow Peak is just over 100 kilometers from Xining, making transportation very convenient. In the near future, a railway line will also pass by the mountain. Additionally, Gangshika Snow Peak complements the 4A-level tourist attraction—the “Hundred-Mile Rapeseed Flower Sea”—in Menyuan Hui Autonomous County. It is also close to other popular destinations such as the Atomic City and the Hainan Prefecture Wang Luobin Music Art Museum. With its stunning natural scenery, it is highly suitable for mountaineering and skiing activities. Hosting the Gangshika Mountaineering and Skiing Conference is not only about building this brand, but also about leveraging the region's unique high-altitude sports resources, magnificent natural landscapes, profound cultural heritage, and rich ethnic characteristics to create an important part of Qinghai’s larger cultural framework that integrates sports, tourism, and culture. Through such events, we aim to promote Qinghai and Hainan Prefecture extensively, further enhancing their visibility and influence.
Feng Jianping said that developing sports means actively integrating it into the broader cultural development, striving to contribute to Qinghai’s economic growth, social harmony, ethnic unity, and the happiness of its people. Gangshika is a “golden mountain”—if developed well, it could bring immeasurable benefits to the local economy and tourism industry.
It is understood that the Qinghai Provincial Sports Bureau has already communicated with the Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Government and other relevant departments to focus on building this brand, improving Gangshika’s infrastructure, and providing greater convenience for more mountaineering and skiing enthusiasts. At the same time, with the Gangshika Mountaineering and Skiing Exchange Conference as the core, the goal is to develop a series of tourism activities that also highlight attractions like the Hundred-Mile Rapeseed Flower Sea and the Atomic City, extending to areas like Qilian. This will fully tap into and utilize the region’s unique natural and cultural resources, driving the development of high-altitude sports tourism, sports exploration, and sports leisure industries, achieving leapfrog growth.
Feng Jianping said, "In the 1980s, our province’s Anyemaqen Snow Mountain was once renowned in the global mountaineering and skiing community, but we missed the opportunity and let the brand slip away. Now, Gangshika is increasingly becoming a sacred site in the hearts of mountaineering and skiing enthusiasts—we cannot afford to miss this opportunity again."
Therefore, Feng Jianping has also envisioned a bright future for Gangshika. He said that starting next year, the Gangshika Mountaineering and Skiing Exchange Conference will be elevated to a pan-Asian event, then upgraded to a world-class event the year after, with the goal of making Gangshika a world-class mountaineering and skiing tourism destination within five years.
"We built the Tour of Qinghai Lake in less than ten years, letting the world know Qinghai through this event. Now, we aim to build Gangshika in five years, so that the world will get to know Hainan Prefecture and Qinghai through Gangshika." Speaking of Gangshika’s future, Feng Jianping is full of confidence.
