Since entering the second decade of the 21st century, China’s overall public health awareness has continued to rise. While the state has paid increasing attention to improving people’s livelihoods and building a leisure society, the happiness needs, health issues, and leisure demands of the general populace continue to raise ever higher expectations on governments at all levels and related service institutions.

Reporters learned from6the20press conference held on the [date] by the People’s Government of Zhaoqing City and the China Headquarters of the Internationaler Volkssportverband (hereinafter referred to asCVA) that the first International (China · Zhaoqing) Hiking Tourism Festival and the2012Internationaler Volkssportverband Annual Conference (hereinafter referred to asIVVthe Annual Conference) will be grandly held in Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province from10[month]19to10[month]22. Zhaoqing City will not only host the inaugural International Hiking Tourism Festival but also marks theIVVAnnual Conference’s first time in Asia. Attendees of this press conference included Ms. Xiong Yumei, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Tourism and current President of the Women’s Committee of the China Tourism Association; Mr. Chen Dingkun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Zhaoqing Municipal Party Committee and member of the Party Leadership Group of the Municipal Government; Mr. Liu Weihong, Director of the Zhaoqing Municipal Tourism Development Bureau; Mr. Lin Qiu zhi, Party Committee Secretary and Deputy Director of the Zhaoqing Municipal Tourism Development Bureau; and Mr. Jin Qiao, Secretary-General of the China Headquarters of the Internationaler Volkssportverband, among others.

What can one conference achieve? Perhaps China’s glorious revolutionary history can provide an answer: a great conference can be a rescue, a turning point, or the dawn of a brand-new era. But one thing is certain — the first International (China · Zhaoqing) Hiking Tourism Festival will herald a new age where humanity returns to nature, respects life, and ultimately promotes social harmony and global unity.

A rather interesting phenomenon is emerging in China today. The once-booming real estate industry is shifting from purely residential developments toward a composite tourism and leisure sector. Once-obscure places like Lijiang in China, OCT (Overseas Chinese Town) expanding into tier-one and tier-two cities, along with hiking activities of various scales, have all started booming. This signals that a massive consumer demand is calling for a major industry — the footsteps of the leisure era are approaching. Against this backdrop, the “First International (China · Zhaoqing) Hiking Tourism Festival” jointly organized by the People’s Government of Zhaoqing City and the Internationaler Volkssportverband has become what the people are calling for, marking a symbolic opening of the door to the leisure era.

To better and more swiftly adapt to the demands of China’s leisure era, the China Headquarters of the Internationaler Volkssportverband will also be officially renamed as the China Headquarters of the International Leisure Sports Federation, aiming to better serve the leisure needs of Chinese citizens, especially in the realm of hiking.
