As you walk into Pingtung Park, an almost 8-meter-tall giant ice cream cone suddenly tumbles down and melts on the ground. This is a large-scale sculpture work titled "Popsicle" specially invited by the “Cool Pingtung Summer” event from artist Lai Kuan-chung. It will be exhibited in Pingtung Park for one year. The event will also feature 20 local ice cream vendors to join in the fun, ensuring everyone enjoys a cool and refreshing time.

On the 18th, the Pingtung County Government’s Department of Tourism and Communication unveiled the ice cream cone sculpture to kick off the “Cool Pingtung Summer” event. Artist Lai Kuan-chung explained his creative concept, saying that “popsicle” is a memory from many people’s childhoods — when they heard the “popsicle, popsicle” sound as a kid, they knew the ice cream seller was coming. Lai, who has two children of his own, spent two and a half months creating “Popsicle” for his kids. The sculpture not only adds fun to the city but also evokes the simplest happiness of everyone’s childhood.

Tourism and Communication Department Director Yin Feng-lan said that everyone knows Pingtung’s sun is scorching, so the area has many delicious local ice shops. This “Cool Pingtung Summer” event has rarely gathered so many local ice cream vendors together, such as FO'IS gelato, Mom Zhou’s Natural Grass Jelly Ice, Corn Lane Pure Natural Flavor Ice Cream, Zengzan Series Ice Treats, and Fruit Commander — all unique ice treats for a satisfying treat.

The “Cool Pingtung Summer” event on the 20th kicks off at 10 a.m.and includes activities such as water balloon fights, photo ops with free popsicles, and fun ice-themed DIY games for parents and children, allowing both kids and adults to beat the heat and enjoy ice treats together in Pingtung Park.
