A bicycle, over 3,200 kilometers, and 27 days of relentless effort—yesterday around 2 p.m., Zhang Chunyu, who runs a business in Wenzhou, cycled from Wenzhou all the way to his hometown of Changchun.
Zhang Chunyu is the owner of a handicrafts company in Wenzhou. Over the 10 years he has been building his business there, every time he returned to his hometown of Changchun, he took a plane, train, or other forms of transportation—except never once by bicycle. He decided “to give it a try and also challenge myself.”
On June 10, Zhang set off from Wenzhou. At that time, he weighed nearly 200 jin (about 100 kg), and his friends were skeptical, believing his physical condition at the time wasn’t suitable for long-distance cycling.
Zhang said, “But I stuck with it. And I gained something too—my sleep wasn’t great before, but during the ride, I could fall asleep almost as soon as my head hit the pillow.”
The bicycle Zhang rode on this trip was bought by his 13-year-old son. His wife Yu Xiufang said, “My husband deliberately didn’t use his own bike, wanting to use this cycling trip to teach his son a lesson. He hopes the child will develop an interest in sports and not get too caught up in virtual things like the internet. By taking on this challenge himself, my husband has also set a good example for our son.”
