On the 15th, the Shaanxi Provincial Flood Control Headquarters issued another urgent notice in response to recent localized severe convective weather, requiring all regions to immediately organize inspections of flash flood and geological disaster-prone areas, and reminding the public to stay away from flood-dangerous zones during recent outings.
Since July this year, when Shaanxi entered its main flood season, there have been two episodes of heavy rainfall and multiple stations experiencing localized torrential rain and other severe convective weather. Fifteen counties and districts including Suide, Nanzheng, and Ningqiang, as well as 26 monitoring stations, have experienced short-duration torrential rains. As of yesterday, over the past half month, a total of nine cities across the province—Xi'an, Baoji, Xianyang, Weinan, Yan'an, Hanzhong, Ankang, Shangluo, and Yulin—have urgently relocated and resettled more than 80,000 residents to ensure their safety.
Currently, Shaanxi is in a period of frequent flash floods and heavy rains, with extreme weather patterns being complex and changeable. Localized sudden torrential rains and floods are characterized by multiple concurrent occurrences, fierce onset, high intensity, short duration, and high frequency.
At the same time, the Shaanxi Provincial Flood Control Headquarters also reminds the public to resolutely stay away from flood-dangerous zones during trips in the flood season, and to be vigilant against sudden flash floods and mudflows. Tourism departments should install warning signs at relevant scenic spots and prevent scattered individuals from venturing into more dangerous mountainous areas.
