On the eve of the London Olympics, four mountain and outdoor athletes took on a "biathlon two" challenge—alternating between biking and running—to cross Beijing. They used the most natural forms of running and cycling to embody the Olympic spirit of pushing boundaries and the principle of eco-friendliness.
Four elite outdoor athletes from the Red Bull Outdoor Team—Yang Jiagen, Paizula, Batmunkh, and Chen Xiaolan—jointly completed this challenge. The total route spanned 85 kilometers, including 45 kilometers of mountain biking, 15 kilometers of alternating biking and running, and 25 kilometers of running. Without any traffic control measures, the athletes set off from the Ming Tombs Reservoir in Changping, biked along the auxiliary road of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Expressway to the Bird’s Nest, then switched to alternating biking and running (with two runners and two bikers swapping roles), continued running after reaching Deshengmen, passed through Houhai, the Drum Tower, and Sanlitun, and ran to Chaoyang Park. Finally, they biked from Chaoyang Park to the Temple of Heaven. The entire journey took 3 hours and 15 minutes.
