A business hotel in the city offers surprisingly “free afternoon tea,” available to guests anytime from check-in until 10 PM. The coffee is quality-controlled by a well-known local coffee master. It’s quite rare for a business hotel to manage its afternoon tea time with “resort-grade” standards.

The “Chiayi Guanzhi” in downtown Chiayi features an exterior made of black-gray metal grilles, designed with irregular and fragmented flips for visual effect. When sunlight pours in, the hotel presents varying light and shadow patterns inside. Similar to the design language of the Guanzhi series, the overall aesthetic is built around metal, stone, fair-faced concrete, and wood textures. Upon entering the lobby, the space feels quiet and refreshing.

Instead of adopting the luxury resort management style, it opts for a modest business hotel look, with Nordic-inspired interior designs. Given its location in Chiayi, the rooms are equipped with mid-to-high-end tea sets and Alishan tea for guests. The entire hotel also showcases wooden structures throughout, giving guests a refreshing feel as if strolling through a forest, yet without being overly ornate.

Though not positioned as a resort-style hotel, it applies the mindset and quality control of a high-end resort. This is something noteworthy about Chiayi Guanzhi. Su Peizhe, the marketing manager of Chiayi Guanzhi, sought out well-known baristas in Chiayi, having professional barista apprentices take over the hotel’s food and beverage bar to craft coffee. A small and simple bar space within the hotel delivers a refined afternoon tea presentation.

From the moment guests check in until 10 PM, they can enjoy afternoon or even late-night tea. Unlike typical hotels that serve casual-style afternoon tea, Chiayi Guanzhi’s version features thoughtfully selected Italian coffee options and exquisitely plated cakes. During the reporter’s visit, coinciding with a summer promotion, the experience included Belgian waffles with ice cream and a latte. The dessert was rich and flavorful, and the latte featured an elegant latte art design — a sign of genuine care.

“We think from the perspective of travelers — what would be the most considerate?” said Su Peizhe. Afternoon tea is available until the late-night hours. In terms of facilities, besides the basic gym, there’s also a bridge table available for guests who want to play cards. This ensures all guests feel the thoughtful service during their stay.
