From mid-summer to autumn, the golden-hued “daylily seas” are a spectacular sight not to be missed. But you don’t have to trek all the way to eastern Taiwan to enjoy daylilies. Here are five current daylily bloom zones that are perfect for a family flower-viewing trip as summer draws to a close.

1. Hualien — Liushitou Mountain
Liushitou Mountain and Chikeshan Mountain are both ranked as must-see landscapes in Taiwan. The layered hillsides are dyed in golden hues by fields of daylilies. From the highest point of Liushitou Mountain, you can overlook the entire sea of flowers and the scenery of the Huatung Valley — a view so stunning it will win your heart at first glance.

Just how beautiful is the scenery of Liushitou Mountain? In 2015, French street artist Mr. 7 was invited to Taiwan for a mural project. When passing by Liushitou Mountain, he was captivated by its majestic natural landscape. Within just one day, he painted a girl lying asleep on a water tower. When the daylilies bloom, the girl appears as if resting within a romantic sea of blossoms — another unmissable attraction.

2. Hualien — Chikeshan Mountain
Chikeshan Mountain also boasts an exceptionally beautiful sea of daylilies. Combined with Liushitou Mountain, their total blooming area exceeds 76 hectares. Unlike the clearly layered look of Liushitou, Chikeshan resembles a tranquil golden velvet blanket spread across the green hills, offering a completely different visual experience.

3. Taitung — Wangyou Valley in Taimali
Wangyou Valley in Taimali is another must-visit destination for daylily viewing at this time. Along the walking trails, visitors can walk right into the flower sea. Starting from the pavilion at the top, the valley unfolds like an endless floral carpet stretching down the mountainside. According to netizen reports, the daylilies at the mountaintop of Wangyou Valley have already bloomed, so visitors should seize the opportunity to go.

4. Taichung — Muxinquan Leisure Farm
You don’t have to travel far to see daylilies. Muxinquan Leisure Farm, which cultivates both lowland and highland varieties of daylilies, is also a popular flower-viewing spot. Currently, daylilies can be seen in the Camphor Tree Conservation Area and the Back Mountain Conservation Area, with approximately 30% and 10% of the blooms open respectively. To see the full bloom, you might want to plan your visit around September.

5. Nantou — TouShe Daylily Sea
Located near Sun Moon Lake, TouShe Village in Yuchi Township, Nantou, has gained fame in recent years for its sea of daylilies, attracting many visitors. Covering about 1.5 hectares and the result of ten years of cultivation, the TouShe daylily sea features not only yellow daylilies but also pink, bright red, and a hundred other varieties. It has now entered its peak blooming period, with the flowering season expected to last until the end of September, making it a new hotspot for daylily enthusiasts.
