Promoting Tourism Through Culture: Guam’s “Chamorro Dance Class” Launches in Taiwan

The Guam Visitors Bureau has invited Guam’s national treasure, Master Frank Rabon, to personally teach in Taiwan on August 22 and 23. This marks the first time a Chamorro dance class has been offered in Taiwan. The Bureau stated that it plans to officially launch a Chamorro Dance Academy in Taiwan 1–2 times per year in the future, using cultural influence to promote the tourism industry.

This year coincides with Guam hosting the quadrennial Festival of Pacific Arts. The Taipei 777 Senior Citizens Club sent dance instructor Tina to meet with Guam’s national treasure, Master Frank Rabon, before the festival to learn Chamorro dance. During the festival, they even organized a group trip to Guam to experience Chamorro songs and dances, which led to the invitation for Master Rabon to teach in Taiwan. As a result, the Guam Visitors Bureau facilitated Master Frank Rabon’s visit to Taiwan, where he personally taught face-to-face to over 30 students.

Frank Rabon is the founder of the Guam Chamorro Dance Academy and has long been dedicated to promoting and reviving traditional Chamorro culture. In recent years, he has also held Chamorro Dance Academies in several countries, using dance to exchange and share Guam’s unique Chamorro culture and warmth. To date, over 2,800 students worldwide have received certificates from the Guam Chamorro Dance Academy, and the Guam Visitors Bureau also plans to officially offer classes in Taiwan in the future.
