The Banff Mountain Film Festival China Exhibition, which has been successfully held twice in China, welcomes its 2012 annual tour, also known as: The 2012 (Third) Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour China Exhibition.
With the introduction of the Banff Mountain Film Festival to China, by screening some of the world’s finest outdoor and adventure documentaries, it has played a positive role in promoting and guiding the development of China’s adventure and nature documentary industry, fostering healthier urban lifestyles, and advancing outdoor sports in China.
"This year’s Banff Mountain Film Festival tour has adopted a broader selection approach compared to last year. The 18 films include those on outdoor sports, environmental protection, polar expeditions, humanistic care, and lifestyle themes," said Qian Haiying, the person in charge of the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, highlighting several of the films to be screened this year:
"All In" was highly acclaimed in the international skiing film scene. It not only brilliantly showcases the sport of skiing itself but also interprets the spirit of "unrestricted sports." "Deep Into the Polar Sea" opens up another world beneath the Arctic ice, unexpectedly revealing those shining, beautiful and magnificent creatures;
The protagonist of "Following the Water" paddles down the Colorado River, searching for its source. As a photographer, Peter McBride offers a unique perspective, with smooth storytelling and stunning visuals, making it a rare environmental-themed film;
"In the Footsteps of Genghis Khan" documents an epic journey. Tim Cope, his horse, and his dog Tigon follow in the footsteps of Genghis Khan and his warriors, traveling approximately 10,000 kilometers from Mongolia to Hungary over three years, and filming the movie themselves.
The protagonist of "Freedom Chair" is Josh Dueck, a promising skier and coach whose life is completely changed after an accident leaves him paralyzed from the waist down. The film documents how he makes a comeback, returns to the slopes, pursues his dreams, and shares his inspiring outlook on life with others.
Additionally, films on climbing, mountain biking, whitewater kayaking, slacklining, paragliding, longboarding, and adventure themes have always been key features of Banff. With the growth of China’s outdoor industry and people’s pursuit of healthy lifestyles, Banff’s films will attract even more people to the wonders of the outdoors.
Alongside the Banff screenings, the organizing committee also follows Banff’s mission of outreach. During the festival, several outdoor-themed public welfare projects were introduced, advocating environmental awareness and attention to autistic children.
The 2012 Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour China Exhibition will be held in four cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Chengdu. Each city will host two days over a weekend—four screenings in total, with no repeated content. Audiences in these four cities and surrounding areas can enjoy the 18 carefully selected outdoor sports documentary films on the big screen in top-tier cinemas, experiencing the charm of nature and the excitement of outdoor living.
