The French Petzl (climbing equipment) brand supports its development
On August 26, the China Mountain Development Institute (China Mountain Development Institute, hereinafter referred to as CMDI), supported by the Osprey brand, officially signed a partnership agreement with the French Petzl (climbing equipment) brand on the closing day of the 2012 Getu RocTrip climbing exchange event, establishing a formal collaborative relationship. Petzl will provide long-term technical gear support for the CMDI team in the future.

As a non-profit organization, CMDI aims to train professional climbers and climbing guides. As the only institution in China currently offering professional training for alpine-style climbing and rock climbing guides, its mission is to cultivate climbing enthusiasts who aspire to pursue a career in climbing into professional guides. These expert guides will lead a broader community of climbing enthusiasts to safely and enjoyably pursue their climbing dreams in China’s vast and diverse mountain ranges. CMDI has introduced the French climbing guide training system, developed guide training courses tailored to China in accordance with the guidelines of the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA), ensuring that the quality of its training is in line with international professional standards. It has also appointed the highly experienced French international mountain guide Mr. Olivier Balma as the Technical Director of Training.
The timing of the signing ceremony during the 2012 Getu RocTrip holds special significance. As early as 2011, CMDI and Petzl collaborated in Getu to develop over 200 climbing routes, contributing to the great success of the Petzl RocTrip held there that year. The CMDI coaching team and students’ passion and respect for the mountains, as well as their rigorous and skilled approach to climbing techniques and technical operations, left a deep impression on everyone they worked with. This included Erwan, the Marketing Activities Manager of the Petzl brand, who said at the signing ceremony: “The collaboration between CMDI and Petzl is truly delightful. CMDI is the best climbing organization in China, and Petzl produces the best climbing technical equipment. We (at Petzl) hope to maintain this partnership.”
Since its establishment in 2006, CMDI has been fully supported by the Osprey brand, ensuring the continuation of its professional and rigorous teaching philosophy and climbing ethos to this day. It has also received long-term sponsorship from the renowned French equipment brand Simond and the rope brand Beal.
