In September 2012, CORA (China Outdoor Retail Industry Association) officially became the mainland China general agent for the American outdoor skiing safety brand Backcountry Access (BCA).

Backcountry Access (BCA) is dedicated to producing safety and rescue equipment. Its founder, Bruce Edgerly, is an avid backcountry skier who once survived a near-fatal avalanche while skiing in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. That experience inspired him to start this company. He partnered with Bruce Bruno McGowan to develop a wireless avalanche transceiver. In 1997, the product was launched and quickly became the best-selling radio transceiver in North America. Shovels, probes, and airbags, just like the transceivers, are essential gear.

BCA not only focuses on manufacturing safety and rescue equipment, but also pioneers efforts in safety awareness education and training, researching and writing guidelines for avalanche rescue. Edgerly said, “After establishing ourselves in the industry, we realized that rescue equipment is only part of the solution—safety education is even more crucial.” In addition, BCA supports other educational initiatives by funding youth safety training programs and sharing safety content on its website (visit backcountryaccess.com/education for details) to help people better understand the risks of backcountry skiing.

CORA has years of successful operational and management experience with top American outdoor brands such as Gregory and Patagonia in mainland China. It believes that under CORA’s leadership, BCA will achieve significant growth in China, its safety education efforts will be better promoted, and it will continue to develop superior equipment for hiking and skiing enthusiasts.
