On the morning of the 3rd, the Forest Fire Prevention Command of the Laoshan Scenic Area Management Bureau launched the first concentrated forest fire prevention operation of this autumn and winter season in the scenic area. In the Yangkou Tourist Area, they caught a group of independent travelers using fire illegally, confiscated two small gas stoves, and advised the hikers. During the operation, over 2,000 “fire prevention reminder cards” were distributed to visitors. It is understood that this fire prevention campaign will last for one month, with law enforcement and publicity taking place every weekend.
Inspection teams split into eight routes, conducting checks while promoting awareness
The inspection teams were divided into eight action groups: the Juling Group, Liqing Group, Taiqing Group, Yangkou Group, and others. Each group consisted of one forest police officer and several staff members from the Forest Fire Prevention Command. The various teams worked separately to carry out publicity, education, and advisory efforts along their assigned routes.
It is understood that as this concentrated rectification operation focuses mainly on publicity and education, with fines being secondary, the emphasis is placed on preventing illegal use of fire through awareness and persuasion. The Forest Fire Prevention Command of the Laoshan Scenic Area Management Bureau specially produced portable “fire prevention reminder cards” to remind visitors about fire safety. The front of the card features the prominent slogan “No fire sources in the mountains, forests stay safe,” while the back contains the “Four Uniform Principles” of the fire prevention regulations. Members of the Yangkou inspection team distributed the “fire prevention reminder cards” and also explained the strict enforcement of the “Four Uniform Principles” with examples.
Hikers found cooking with fire in the Yangkou Scenic Area, two gas stoves confiscated
The Yangkou inspection team followed by reporters chose a route with the highest number of hikers for inspection. To prevent hikers from hiding their fire-making equipment upon seeing inspectors, the team members proceeded with great caution. Not far from the Baiyun Cave, inspectors heard the voices of hikers and followed the sound into a stone cave where the hikers were having a meal. At the scene, reporters saw a total of 12 tourists cooking with alcohol stoves, some of whom had almost finished eating. The inspection team educated and advised the tourists and confiscated two alcohol stoves.
Most hikers had no objections to the inspection team’s actions. “We even read the media reports yesterday. To avoid causing fires, we specifically cooked under the rocks,” said one hiker, Mr. Song. He also did not expect the scenic area to enforce the rules so strictly and pledged never to bring fire sources into the scenic area again.
The rectification activity will continue for a month, with inspections every weekend
During the rectification campaign, apart from one group of independent travelers found cooking in the Yangkou Tourist Area, no other visitors using fire were discovered in other areas. According to statistics, the action teams of the Laoshan Scenic Area Management Bureau’s Forest Fire Prevention Command covered nearly the entire Laoshan area and distributed over 2,000 “fire prevention reminder cards” to both “professional hikers” and independent travelers.
It is understood that the first phase of the concentrated forest fire prevention operation in the Laoshan Scenic Area will last for one month, with key leaders personally leading all agency officials into the mountains every weekend for law enforcement and publicity.
