Adorable American Cat Loves Working: Snuggles on Deliveryman Owner’s Shoulder While Out on Deliveries.
Rudy Sadia, a mail carrier from Philadelphia, USA, rides his bike to deliver packages, and his cat MJ perches on his shoulder. Passersby find the duo both surprising and delightful.
Rudy, 25, rides his bicycle through the streets of his hometown, Philadelphia, delivering packages every day. Six-month-old MJ rides on his shoulder, and in less than a year, the pair has covered a distance of 100 miles.
MJ is short for Mary Jane, the cat’s name. She’s very different from other cats. She was born on April Fools' Day in the closet drawer of Rudy’s bedroom. With such an unusual start in life, Rudy soon discovered that she loved resting on his shoulder, so he decided to train MJ to accompany him to work.
Rudy works as a deliveryman for IDS, an intrusion detection systems company. He said, “MJ is the first cat I’ve ever had. My friends told me I could train her, so I started teaching her to sit on my shoulder.”
“On the first day, we managed one block. The next day, two blocks. Now she sits on my shoulder, and we can go for 25 miles at a time. MJ loves the feeling of the wind blowing through her fur, and she enjoys hopping around between my shoulders.”
But Rudy isn’t entirely satisfied with the 25-mile daily work route—he hopes that by next September, they’ll be able to go 100 miles at a time. “People on the street have no idea what’s going on—they always take a second look.”
“I don’t really notice most people’s reactions, but I often hear them shouting things like, ‘Oh my God, there’s a cat on his shoulder!’ or ‘So cute!’”
“People also like to come over and check her out, wanting to pet her. They’re usually surprised to hear she came along on the bike ride. MJ is super comfortable on my shoulder, so she never scratches me—no scratches on my shoulders or back.”
MJ loves the bustling streets of Philadelphia, though she sometimes gets scared by strange alarm sounds. People who notice MJ on Rudy’s shoulder are always amazed, and happy customers often want to give the adorable cat a hug.
