In snowy and rainy weather, drivers should be especially cautious on highways. However, Li Mou from Anyang (Henan), in order to let his girlfriend take a look at the beautiful scenery of the Yellow River, actually reversed his vehicle for three kilometers on the highway.
At around 10:40 am on December 27, 2012, the command center of the Eighth Detachment of the Henan Provincial Highway Police Corps received a report that a car was reversing on the Yellow River Bridge of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway. The command center immediately notified patrolling officers on the road to rush to the scene. When the officers arrived at the Yellow River Bridge, kilometer marker 650 of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway, they saw a Buick sedan with license plate Yu EY23XX reversing in the emergency lane. The officers immediately signaled the vehicle to pull over.
Upon questioning, it was learned that the driver, surnamed Li, was from Anyang. That day, Li and his girlfriend were in Zhengzhou on business. When they reached the Yellow River Bridge on the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway, the girlfriend asked Li to pull over and take a look at the Yellow River. Knowing that stopping arbitrarily on the highway is not allowed, Li did not stop on the bridge but continued driving. However, the girlfriend insisted, saying that if Li didn’t let her see the Yellow River, she would break up with him when they got back. Unable to resist her pleas, Li agreed. But by then, the car had already passed the section of the Yellow River, so to fulfill his girlfriend’s wish, Li had no choice but to reverse back.
The officers explained to Li the dangers of reversing on the highway and fined him 200 yuan and deducted 12 points from his license, meaning Li would have to retake his driving test.
