Hiking tourism covers a wide range of experiences. Along the way, you can observe and learn many beneficial things, gain knowledge, and exercise your body. It also helps cultivate the spirit of hard work, perseverance, overcoming difficulties, moving forward bravely, and mutual support. If you can master walking techniques and skills well, you will feel relaxed and joyful during the journey.
The core of walking technique is how to conserve energy. Experience has shown that taking longer strides is better than shorter ones—not only does it save energy, but it also makes resting easier. Your posture while walking should be a natural forward lean. Keep your hands from swinging side to side; instead, swing them front to back. Excessive swinging requires more effort to maintain balance and disrupts forward momentum, leading to fatigue. It’s best to land on your heel with each step, then gradually shift your weight to the ball of your foot through the arch.
The choice of walking shoes is very important—they should be lightweight, properly sized, and have soles that aren’t too thin. Choose relatively flat paths for walking. During breaks, loosen your shoelaces and elevate your feet slightly to promote blood circulation. Before sleeping, it’s best to soak your feet in hot water to help relieve fatigue. Those not used to walking often may develop blisters after prolonged hiking. If a blister forms, use a sterilized sewing needle to puncture it, drain the fluid, and insert a clean thread or strand of hair. Be sure to prevent infection.
