More disruptive than Uber? The world's first "self-driving taxi" debuts in Singapore

According to Lonely Planet, the world’s first driverless “self-driving taxi” has made its debut in Singapore, giving future travelers to the Lion City the chance to experience this unique service.

While many companies have been testing autonomous vehicles for years, nuTonomy, the company behind Singapore’s first driverless taxi, claims to be the first in the world to open the service to the public.

NuTonomy currently has only six cars, but the number will gradually increase by the end of this year. Their ultimate goal is to form a fleet by 2018 to help alleviate traffic congestion in Singapore, and they also aim to outdo Uber. They are continuing tests in other Asian cities, the U.S., and Europe. As the technology matures, travelers can expect to enjoy even more convenience in the near future.
