According to the Chinese Mountaineering Association, the association will form a review panel for the “Technical Training for Mountaineering Rescue Volunteers” course and teaching materials, which will be evaluated from January 11 to 13, 2013, at the Shenzhen Mountain Rescue Training Base.
In recent years, with the development of the social economy and the improvement of living standards, the number of people participating in mountaineering and outdoor sports has increased rapidly, as has the number of mountain accidents occurring during these activities. The Chinese Mountaineering Association has therefore put forward a rescue work guideline of “government-led, local rescue organizations as the backbone, and volunteers as the main body.” It has made improving and promoting mountain rescue techniques, providing rescue skill training, and enhancing the rescue capabilities of local rescue organizations the focus of its work in 2013.
Once the “Technical Training for Mountaineering Rescue Volunteers” course and teaching materials are approved, they will be gradually promoted nationwide and become China’s first standardized set of training courses and materials for mountaineering rescue volunteers. They will play a positive role in standardizing the cultivation of mountaineering rescue personnel and organizations, as well as in raising awareness of risks, safety knowledge, risk avoidance, and self-rescue abilities among hiking and outdoor sports enthusiasts.
