Winter brings more frost, fog, ice and snow, along with low temperatures — a complex environment that significantly impacts driving safety. Drivers should raise their awareness of safe winter driving, enhance their knowledge and skills in winter driving, and master the methods for handling common issues encountered during winter driving to ensure road safety.

　　1. Carry out seasonal vehicle maintenance. Conduct a comprehensive inspection and servicing of the vehicle’s braking system, steering system, drivetrain, as well as air, water, and fuel pipelines. Equip the vehicle with necessary anti-freeze devices and add engine oil and gear oil as specified. In addition, frequently check and replenish antifreeze, pay attention to keeping the battery warm and charged, inspect the tires, and install snow chains during icy or snowy weather. Maintain sufficient power while driving, avoid abrupt braking or steering.

　　2. Before setting off, gather road condition information in advance through TV, radio, or other means, bring essential tools such as snow chains and a shovel, and prepare in advance to handle potential situations.

　　3. During winter driving, temperature differences between the inside and outside of the car can cause windows to fog up. While using the heater to defog, slightly open the front windows for a quick and effective result. Also pay attention to defogging the rear window to maintain visibility behind the vehicle and enhance safety when reversing.

　　4. When driving on icy or snowy roads in winter, avoid shifting to higher gears. Instead, maintain controlled power with some margin, and minimize gear changes to prevent accidents. Keep a steady and reduced speed, reduce or avoid lane changes and overtaking as much as possible, and strictly avoid emergency braking. When driving on slopes, try not to change gears. Increase the distance from the vehicle ahead before going uphill, choose an appropriate gear, and select a lower gear in advance based on road conditions when going downhill, making full use of engine braking. Especially on bridges, underpasses, and elevated roads — areas most prone to icing — slow down in advance and avoid using the brakes to prevent skidding. Do not overly rely on high-tech braking systems such as ABS or EBD, as they only provide auxiliary braking support.
