In response to the needs of the large-scale travel program "Journey to the Far Side" from China Central Television (CCTV), the Chinese Mountaineering Association conducted a basic outdoor skills training session for the program team at the National Mountaineering Team Training Base in Huairou, Beijing, from January 8 to January 9, 2013. With the purpose of "service, standardization, and guidance," the training aimed to equip the program team staff with essential outdoor knowledge and skills required for filming in outdoor environments.

A total of 31 participants attended this training session. To ensure that the participants could acquire the most practical skills in the shortest time possible, the instructors redesigned the curriculum based on foundational outdoor skills courses and tailored it to the specific working needs of the program team. The training covered topics such as hazard identification and prevention, outdoor gear knowledge, outdoor environmental protection, knot-tying techniques, belaying techniques, and rappelling techniques. Through two days of intensive learning, the participants significantly improved their safety awareness, protective measures, and basic self-rescue methods necessary for field shooting.

"Journey to the Far Side" is a brand-new travel program launched by CCTV in December 2010 during the prime time slot on CCTV-4. The program aims to deliver unique travel information and rich cultural insights to domestic audiences, while promoting the charm of Chinese culture and showcasing a national tourism image that honors tradition yet embraces modernity to international viewers. By featuring China’s diverse customs, natural landscapes, and majestic mountains, the show is expected to boost the development of outdoor sports in China, attract more people to explore nature, and promote nationwide fitness activities. Given the many unpredictable safety risks present in the various outdoor environments where the program is filmed, it has become essential for the program team to learn about outdoor concepts, basic outdoor knowledge, safety awareness, and fundamental outdoor skills. The team unanimously agrees that only through formal and professional training can they ensure the necessary safety measures when producing content in outdoor settings.
