On the 19th, local resident Zhao Wei encountered a fox while hiking on Mao’er Mountain, and this unexpected visitor added quite a bit of joy to their mountain climbing trip.
On the 19th, Zhao Wei and a group of over ten friends went hiking on Mao’er Mountain. There was heavy snow in the mountains, and when the group reached about 50 meters from the summit, they could hardly move forward. For safety reasons, everyone decided to give up reaching the top. Just as they were feeling disappointed, an “unexpected guest” appeared among them. At first, everyone thought it was a small dog, but upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a fox.
Possibly having been in the snowy mountains for a long time and suffering from hunger, the little fox wasn’t afraid of people at all. It wandered around among the group, and the hikers rummaged through their bags to find food — offering mooncakes, haw flakes, lollipops, and more to feed the fox. The little fox accepted everything without hesitation and ate it all.
After eating for a while, the little fox ran off to a distance and buried itself in a snowdrift. When the group started to leave and head down the mountain, it came out again and followed them. It moved along with them, stopping and going, and ended up joining them for another meal. In the end, when the group really had no more food to offer, the fox then ran off. By that time, over 40 minutes had passed. According to locals, there have been rumors of wild foxes in the mountains, but very few people have actually seen them.
A reporter looked up information and found that this fox might be a species that lives in northern regions — the red fox (commonly known as the fox). Red foxes typically measure 50–90 cm in body length, with a tail length of 30–60 cm, and weigh 5–10 kg. The fur on their back comes in various colors, but the typical color is reddish-brown. In recent years, the number of red foxes in China has sharply declined.
