From January 26 to 27, the first winter outdoor experience course initiated by Green Field Outdoor Network was held in Yunmeng Gorge. This event was a beginner-oriented, hands-on outdoor training session. Senior outdoor instructor Zheng Lixin (online ID: Cefeng) was invited to serve as the coach for this experience course.

On the way through Yunmeng Gorge: practicing the correct way to walk on snow
In recent times, domestic outdoor accidents have occurred frequently, resulting in serious injuries and fatalities. Green Field Outdoor Network realized that with the explosive growth in the number of outdoor enthusiasts, there is a large influx of newcomers lacking knowledge about outdoor activities, especially when it comes to recognizing outdoor risks. Therefore, providing effective and practical introductory guidance for outdoor beginners has become an urgent priority. To advocate for safe and environmentally friendly outdoor practices, Green Field Network has strengthened outdoor leader training and launched a combined online open course and offline experience course tailored for outdoor beginners.

Participants in the experience course are required to complete Green Field Outdoor’s online public courses in advance, covering topics such as outdoor safety, hiking, equipment, food, and winter outdoor activities.

Learning to build a snow wall: a small windproof cooking shelter
Located at the junction of Miyun and Huairou in the Yunmeng Mountain area, Yunmeng Gorge features diverse terrain and relatively high safety, making it highly suitable for beginners’ training. This training covered dozens of detailed outdoor knowledge points — from pre-activity preparations such as gear selection, backpack packing, and warm-up exercises, to activity execution including pace control, adding or removing clothing, walking on ice, walking on rocks, finding wind-sheltered resting spots, using crampons on icy slopes, practicing proper falling techniques, choosing campsite locations, team-based tent setup, building snow walls, and preparing outdoor meals. Each aspect was addressed in detail. Participants experienced it firsthand while instructors provided individual guidance. Through the activities, team members gained practical insights into winter outdoor activities and camping, became aware of potential outdoor risks and how to manage them, cleared up many misconceptions, and also put environmental protection standards into practice. After the event, team member Xieshou Fengjing said, “During the activities, the instructors were extremely enthusiastic. They covered dozens of knowledge points, big and small, and shared everything they knew. Through the experience and discussions, I learned a lot about outdoor knowledge, enriched my outdoor experience, improved my environmental awareness, and enhanced my safety skills.”

Learning how to choose a campsite and set up a tent
This is the first time in China that a beginners’ outdoor training program combines online theoretical courses with offline experiential sessions. Green Field will continue to carry out hands-on outdoor training for beginners, step by step, hoping that the outdoor community will become increasingly standardized, safer, and more environmentally friendly.
