The Spring Festival is fading into the distance, taking with it the bleakness of winter, as the vibrant spring season approaches. The gradually warming temperatures bring flowers into full bloom and trees begin to sprout fresh green leaves, filling the air with the scent of spring. After a long “hibernation,” it’s hard to resist the urge to step outside and embrace the long-sealed freshness of the season. The great poet Li Bai once wrote, “Go down to Yangzhou in the misty March,” and while the scenery in Yangzhou is indeed enchanting, for those tied up with work and unable to travel far, the outskirts of Beijing also make for a great choice.
The Miaofeng Mountain Scenic Area is famed for its “ancient temples,” “exotic pines,” “peculiar rocks,” and “rare flowers.” Part of the Taihang Mountain range, Miaofeng Mountain has an elevation of 1,291 meters at its main peak, featuring steep terrain and delicate blossoms. The mountain offers seasonal sights such as sunrises, sunsets, rime frost, and mountain market towns. It is home to China’s finest thousand-mu rose fields and hosts the largest traditional pilgrimage temple fair in North China. Miaofeng Mountain has become one of the most culturally rich scenic spots around Beijing.
Miaofeng Mountain features low peaks and vast skies, with fresh air and thriving shrubbery. There are over 600 species of woody plants and more than 20 types of high-quality medicinal herbs. A variety of rare and colorful flowers bloom all year round. From peach blossoms and wild lilacs to jasmine, azaleas, strawflowers, and the thousand-mu rose fields, as one flower fades another blooms, creating a unique landscape where “all surrounding mountains look like paintings, and flowers can be admired every day of the year.”
Miaofeng Mountain gathers the wonders of famous peaks and the essence of earthly paradises. The area is rich in historical sites and scenic spots, including the renowned Liao Dynasty royal temple Yanshan Qiyin Chan Temple, Dayun Temple, the Dripping Rock—known as “Exploring the Spiritual Cliff,” one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Wanping—and the private villa of Reginald Johnston, the English tutor of the last emperor Puyi. It's truly a place where “the mountain brings life to the Buddhist sites, and the Buddhist sites enhance the beauty of the mountain,” complementing each other perfectly.
