One highlight of this "Lenovo Yoga Style Cup" ski mountaineering race was the opportunity for athletes to interact with mountaineering stars such as Wang Yongfeng, Luo Shen, and Ci Luo, who have all summited Everest multiple times and achieved remarkable feats in global mountaineering. Competitors not only honed their ski mountaineering skills during the event but also had the chance to engage closely with these legends, gaining valuable insights into high-altitude expeditions. Many participants noted that the competition not only improved their technical abilities but also enriched them with priceless knowledge about mountain exploration through these exchanges.
It is reported that Lenovo Group collaborated with the Chinese Mountaineering Association back in 2008 to support the Beijing Olympic torch relay on Mount Everest. Wanlong Ski Resort also successfully hosted the first "Wanlong Cup" International Winter Mountain Outdoor Challenge in 2012 in partnership with the same association. This "Lenovo Yoga Style Cup" ski mountaineering race marks yet another strong collaboration between Lenovo Group, Wanlong Ski Resort, and the Chinese Mountaineering Association.
In recent years, the Chinese Mountaineering Association has been dedicated to promoting and popularizing ski mountaineering both domestically and across Asia. It has organized a series of events including the 2007 National Ski Mountaineering Teaching Competition, the first National Ski Mountaineering Competition in 2008 at Beidahu in Jilin, the second Asian Ski Mountaineering Championships in 2009, the 2010 National Ski Mountaineering Conference and Asian Cup Ski Mountaineering Competition, as well as the 2011 and 2012 Qinghai Gangshika National Ski Mountaineering Exchange Conferences—bringing ski mountaineering truly into the realm of snowy mountains. At the recently concluded Asian Cup Ski Mountaineering Competition in South Korea, China’s Jin Yubo and Zhang Na won the men’s and women’s vertical race championships respectively.
It is reported that many regions in China are suitable for ski mountaineering activities, such as Gangshika in Qinghai, Qiyi Glacier in Gansu, Banji Peak in Sichuan, Qizhi Peak in Tibet, Muztagh Ata in Xinjiang, and various major domestic ski resorts. With strong promotion by the Chinese Mountaineering Association in recent years, ski mountaineering has gained widespread popularity across the country and is increasingly favored by young people, giving rise to a growing community of ski mountaineering enthusiasts in China.
