Reporters have learned from the Tibet Mountaineering Team that the Tibet Mountaineering Conference will once again invite mountain enthusiasts to gather this October.
According to Losang Yundeng, deputy head of the Tibet Mountaineering Team, this year’s mountaineering conference will be held at the Yangbajing Alpine Training Base at an altitude of 4,300 meters, and the Tibet Mountaineering Team sincerely invites mountaineers from across the country to sign up. The conference is expected to last about a week. It will begin with theoretical training and practical exercises, after which participants will be taken to an area at 5,200 meters above sea level for snow and ice training. Provided their physical condition allows, and under the guidance and assistance of instructors, participants will climb Qizhi Peak, which stands at 6,200 meters.
Losang Yundeng stated that the objectives of holding the mountaineering conference are to promote national fitness and to popularize mountaineering knowledge. The Tibet Mountaineering Team will deploy professional athletes as instructors, all of whom have extensive field experience, to ensure the safety of the participants.
Meanwhile, the renovation and expansion project of the Yangbajing Alpine Training Base, with a total investment of 15 million yuan, was successfully completed last year. The expanded training base is now capable of providing participants with excellent training and living facilities.
According to reports, the Tibet Mountaineering Conference was first held in 2001 and has since become a major event in China’s amateur mountaineering community. Many mountaineers, after training and honing their skills here, have gone on to challenge higher altitudes. The Tibet Mountaineering Conference is generally held twice a year, in May and October, though the events scheduled for October last year and May this year were postponed for certain reasons.
