According to Shandong TV’s Public Channel program "People's Livelihood Express," 70-year-old Liang Guowang and 64-year-old Wang Jianheng, both retired workers from the Shenyang Railway Bureau, did not spend their retirement years at home like many of their peers. Instead, they embarked on their dream journey: a cycling trip to promote environmental awareness.
　　   Cyclist Wang Jianheng said that he set off from Jianping in Chaoyang on April 6th, with Sanya in Hainan as his destination. It’s hard to believe these two elderly men are over 60, given how full of energy they seem. They started cycling from Liaoning, passing through provinces and cities such as Shandong, Anhui, and Jiangsu, covering a distance of more than 5,000 kilometers, all to promote low-carbon environmentalism. Cyclist Wang Jianheng stated that the country is now advocating green travel, and they are using cycling as a way to spread the message. He also mentioned that when they encounter cars with high emissions, they take the opportunity to speak to the drivers when possible. Wang Jianheng said that he had dreamed of cycling across China since he was young, but work and family commitments prevented him from doing so. Not long ago, the cycling association he joined launched this event—originally with 100 participants—but in the end, only the two of them stuck it out. Cyclist Wang Jianheng said that on rainy or cloudy days, they stay in hotels, while on good weather days, they camp with tents, sleeping bags, and moisture-proof mats. Cyclist Liang Guowang explained that these are tools for fixing bike tires—quick to use if a screw loosens. This is for patching tires, and this is a file. Though this kind of outdoor, rough-it-out journey is tough, for the sake of their dreams, they feel nothing but joy. Cyclist Liang Guowang shared that he found the trip quite pleasant and felt in high spirits throughout. As his previous online signature put it: “Ride across the motherland, cultivate the spirit.”
