In response to strong feedback from climbers around the country, this year’s route-opening activities have incorporated suggestions from many climbers in selecting locations, with several new sites added to this year’s route-opening itinerary. At the same time, to make the Rock Journey more exciting and diverse, after comprehensive evaluation, this year’s route-opening campaign has not only expanded the number of route development teams (from one to two) and personnel, but also extended the duration of stays at each location, with increasingly more areas and routes being explored for rock climbing and route development.
From May to June, the route-opening team led by KAILAS climbers such as Xie Weicheng and Zhao Zhongjun will kick off the expedition. The team mainly includes Zhang Xiaoliu, Zhang Yong, Su Feng, Marcos (Brazil), Chen Zhiwen, and others. Their route-opening activities will take place in Liuzhou, Guangxi; Xianning, Hubei; and Qingdao, Shandong. This marks the first time that multiple KAILAS climbers will lead a team dedicated to developing new routes, and their journey is highly anticipated by climbers in various regions. The first stop, Liuzhou, will begin on May 12, when a unique climbers’ exchange competition will be held at Moon Mountain in the Dragon City of Liuzhou, offering climbers an alternative climbing experience different from Yangshuo.
From June until July, the route-opening team will be primarily led by the international Rock Quest China squad headed by Spanish climbing expert Toni. This year, Toni will continue to lead a team of nearly ten members on a series of route-opening and exchange activities in Meijiang, Hunan; Chongqing (to be confirmed); and Zhangshiyan, Shijiazhuang.
