Spring snow is great for mushroom skiing, but the places near me where spring snow is skiable have mushrooms mostly on steep slopes—most are double black diamonds, all wild mushrooms with no real pattern.
Is there any trick to skiing these mushrooms? I feel like I’m just jumping into pits, and it seems like every turn I make is a jump turn. How can I make it smoother? Is there any way to bring my feet closer together when skiing steep slopes?
I’m limited by conditions—I don’t have gentle slope mushrooms to practice on, so I’ve never been very good at skiing mushrooms. But now I can at least ski down gentle slope mushrooms with slightly more fluidity (though it’s still not a very skilled kind of fluidity).
Most of the slopes in the video are around 40 degrees (the fisheye camera distorts the view quite a bit, so the slope angle isn’t obvious). The wild mushrooms are irregular, relatively not very big, not very deep, and not icy. Honestly, they’re definitely much easier to ski than in winter.
