As long as you stick to exercising for an hour every day no matter the weather, you could win a 500 RMB “Love Sports” scholarship. Recently, Wuhan University of Bioengineering invested 400,000 RMB to launch the second edition of the “Love Sports” Scholarship selection.

It is reported that the university’s “Love Sports” Scholarship was first launched last year, and the eligibility criteria are: exercising for more than one hour every day without fail for an entire academic year; participating in at least one sports club; having no absences from morning exercises, and passing physical education exams. Last year, 800 students at the university received the first “Love Sports” Scholarship, with an award coverage rate of 6% of the student body, and each award amounting to 500 RMB (including 200 RMB in prizes and 300 RMB in cash).

Kang Liang and Yang Le, both third-year marketing majors from the class of 2010 at the university, received the “Love Sports” Scholarship. Kang Liang enjoys outdoor sports and sanda, and also participates in the Morning Light Martial Arts Team. He said this scholarship is a great encouragement—previously many people in the dorm liked to sleep in, but now they’ve also learned to exercise actively.

Regarding the rationale behind establishing the “Love Sports” Scholarship, Zhu Zuxiang, assistant to the president of Wuhan University of Bioengineering, said the award also has an impact on academic atmosphere. In the past, many students liked to sleep in and didn’t exercise much, but now both have decreased.

He admitted that the physical fitness of college students nowadays is concerning. Last year, the university’s physical fitness test pass rate was 78%, and they hope to raise it to over 80% through this scholarship.
