Recently, the first aid training class for the 2013 Lanzhou International Marathon kicked off. The training invited five experts from the Gansu Provincial 120 Emergency Center to teach theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to on-site emergency response.
It is reported that many of the participants in this training had previously worked in health support for the previous two marathon events and have some experience in on-site medical support. In the 2011 marathon, there were 16,000 participants; in 2012, 33,000 participants; and this year, the number increased to 42,352 (including 28,775 for the 5 km race, 7,418 for the 10 km, 4,010 for the half marathon, and 2,149 for the full marathon), which has placed greater pressure on the health support work for this year’s marathon.
The training class adopts a small-class teaching method, with step-by-step instruction and group practice. The content includes: methods and key points of on-site cardiopulmonary resuscitation, hemostasis and bandaging techniques—methods and applications, on-site first aid for hypoglycemia, heatstroke, and exercise-induced shock, on-site fixation and transportation of fracture patients, as well as traditional Chinese medicine first aid for fainting, shock, and syncope—methods and applications of acupuncture and massage.
