After several days of continuous rain, May 19th brought early summer weather. More than 500 cycling enthusiasts from across the country gathered at the green Zhongshan Mausoleum Sports Park in the eastern suburbs of Nanjing to participate in the 13th "Giant Cup" Eight-Hour Mountain Team Relay Cycling Race, advocating green travel through action. Members of the Asian Cycling Expo project team came to watch the race, cheering on the participants while also taking on the responsibility of evaluating the site for “Demo Day.” After a full day of on-site experience and field inspection, the Asian Cycling Expo project team unanimously approved the Zhongshan Mausoleum Sports Park venue.
At dawn, as the starting gun fired, the endurance riders rushed off, beginning their eight-hour relay race. The age range among the participating cyclists was wide — from young men to middle-aged women — yet regardless of age, their passion for cycling was the same. Due to the muddy and potholed ground from previous days’ rain, there were inevitable slips and falls, but nothing dampened their dedication to biking.
