At 12:07 noon on May 19, 2013, the Yanqi Squadron of Huairou Detachment received an order from the 119 Command Center of the brigade: a hiker had slipped down the mountain in the Wentian Stone Valley of the Shimen Mountain tourist area, suffered a head injury, and was unconscious — the situation was extremely critical. Upon receiving the call, the squadron quickly dispatched one emergency rescue vehicle and seven officers and soldiers, driving for half an hour to reach the Wentian Stone Valley at the Shimen Mountain tourist area.
Upon arriving at the scene, they gathered information from the caller and learned that a male hiker had accidentally fallen and sustained multiple serious injuries while climbing over the valley, including head bleeding and loss of consciousness. The squadron commander immediately organized officers and soldiers, equipped with rescue stretchers, ropes, and other gear, and led by a local guide, joined forces with police officers and medical personnel to climb up the mountain to rescue the hiker.
Due to the narrow, rugged mountain path covered in weeds and strewn with rocks, the firefighters carried their equipment with great difficulty as they advanced toward the mountaintop. After locating the injured hiker, medical personnel provided on-site treatment. The firefighters carefully helped the injured person descend while periodically calling out to keep him conscious. Throughout the descent, the firefighters took turns carrying the injured person down the mountain. After nearly an hour of arduous progress, they successfully transferred the trapped hiker to the foot of the mountain and safely placed him in the ambulance.

Throughout the entire rescue process, the officers and soldiers of the Yanqi Squadron adhered to the principle of prioritizing saving lives. With composure and calmness, skilled techniques, and the spirit of “People’s Firefighters Serving the People,” they overcame difficulties, braved danger, and successfully rescued the injured hiker, earning unanimous praise from those present.
