We’ve previously introducedhow to choose the right climbing shoes, and now let’s talk about how to maintain them. After all, they’re a small pair of shoes that aren’t cheap, so you should take good care of them after buying.

First, use them only for climbing—don’t wear them as regular shoes, as this will wear down the rubber on the soles and shorten their lifespan;

Second, clean your shoes promptly after each use. If they’re not very dirty, you don’t need to wash them. Stuffing old newspapers inside can absorb sweat, keep the shoes dry, and help maintain their shape.

Third, if the shoes are very dirty, you can wash them with warm water. Water that’s too hot can damage the material of the climbing shoes. Soak the shoes in warm water for 2–3 minutes, then use a brush with some laundry detergent to scrub both the inside and outside. Rinse them thoroughly with clean water, then let them air dry in a cool place.

Fourth, store your climbing shoes in a cool, ventilated place. Avoid direct sunlight or high temperatures, as heat can cause the shoes to come unglued, reducing their lifespan. It can also soften the rubber soles, decreasing friction and support.

Fifth, you can place activated carbon packets or tea bags inside the shoes to absorb moisture and odors.
