Recently, the data research center of Mafengwo Travel Network released its June travel trend forecast, revealing that border areas including Tibet, Qinghai, and Yunnan, along with visa-on-arrival or visa-free destinations such as Fiji and Mauritius, are among the most popular choices for travelers.
According to the Mafengwo destination prediction report, there has been a noticeable increase in downloads for travel guides covering Qinghai Lake (including cycling around the lake), Yubeng, Tibet, Lhasa, Nyingchi, Lugu Lake, Dali, and Nepal. At the same time, visa-on-arrival or visa-free destinations for Chinese tourists are also gaining popularity, with growing interest in Fiji, Kenya, Brunei, Cambodia, Mauritius, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, and Saipan.
Experts from Mafengwo travel guides noted that regions like Tibet and Qinghai have relatively low local costs and allow travelers to easily combine multiple popular destinations into one trip, which is attracting many white-collar workers and students with extended holidays. Additionally, June and July are ideal months of the year to visit southwestern areas like Tibet. With graduation season and summer vacation approaching, many people are eager to explore Tibet’s mystique during this time—another reason these regions are receiving heightened attention. Mafengwo travel experts advise travelers heading to these areas to be prepared for large diurnal temperature variations and strong ultraviolet rays, recommending they pack appropriate clothing and sunscreen. When entering Tibetan regions with strong religious traditions, it’s especially important to respect local customs, such as not moving prayer stone piles (mani stones) at will.
