On June 10 Beijing time, the 2013 World Extreme Games Asia stop was held at Shanghai’s Jiangwan Stadium, an event renowned as one of the highest-level and most influential traditional gatherings in global extreme sports. The men’s speed climbing competition featured 17 athletes from 9 countries. In the finals, Zhong Qixin, captain of the Chinese climbing team and athlete sponsored by Red Bull, missed a move and finished in second place with a time of 17.722 seconds. The gold medal went to Russia’s Sergey Nilov, currently ranked fifth in the world, who clinched victory with a time of 14.932 seconds. Although Zhong Qixin didn’t perform at his best, the silver medal remains the best result ever achieved by a Chinese male athlete in the speed climbing event at the World Extreme Games.
Zhong Qixin not only set a new personal best at this event but also achieved the best result ever for a Chinese male in speed climbing at the World Extreme Games.
