A scheduled event of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI)—the 2013 Cyclo-cross World Cup season—will take place on September 21 in Yanqing County, Beijing, with nearly 100 top riders from over 20 countries and regions participating.
This is the first time the UCI has held its cyclo-cross event in Asia. The competition is divided into men’s elite, women’s elite, and under-20 youth categories.
Cyclo-cross is a long-established and highly popular cycling event in Europe that has evolved into a professional race under the UCI. The sport combines elements of mountain biking, road cycling, and off-road running. It not only requires strong cycling skills but also demands that riders carry their bikes while running through non-rideable sections—a key feature that distinguishes cyclo-cross from other off-road events.
The event is jointly organized by Dalian Qiansen Group, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, and the People’s Government of Yanqing County, Beijing.
Dalian Qiansen Group is a professional service provider specializing in the construction of sports facilities. The company has been involved in the construction of venues for major sporting events such as the Beijing Olympics. In recent years, it has focused on building cycling-themed parks, contributing to the design and construction of the Shanghai Chenjia Town Cycling Park, Henan Xuchang Cycling Park, and Shenyang Qipanshan Mountain Bike Park. Song Lishan, Chairman of Qiansen Group, stated that the company intends to leverage the opportunity of hosting the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup to develop an eco-friendly cycling-themed park along the Guishui River in Yanqing.
