Since its establishment in 2003, the Peak Cloud Society has gone through ten years. In 2004, the mountaineering team was formed, beginning its journey to the snow-capped mountains with the climb of Mount Siguniang II; in 2005, the scientific expedition team, representing the university’s social practice group, undertook the task of conducting social practice activities in Tibet under the care and support of school leaders and the Communist Youth League committee. That same year, a climbing wall was installed in the east campus area, leading to the establishment of the climbing team. On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, we gather together to open a new chapter for the Peak Cloud Society.
At around 1 p.m. on July 14, 2013, the 10th Anniversary Launch Ceremony and the Departure Ceremony for the Three Summer Expedition Teams of the Peak Cloud Society of China Agricultural University were held in the training room on the third floor of Gongzhu Building. The event received enthusiastic attention and support from sponsors, media, and a large number of members, and the team members of the three groups also participated with great enthusiasm.
After the ceremony began, Li Xu, deputy leader of the 10th Anniversary Preparation Group, first introduced the situation of the preparation group and the progress of organizing the celebration activities for the society’s anniversary. The preparation group was established on January 13, 2013, responsible for planning, preparing, and supervising the series of events for the 10th anniversary to ensure the smooth running of each activity. In addition to the three core summer activities, the series also included the Green Camp environmental hiking event, the Peak Cloud Lecture, and the 10th Anniversary Photo Exhibition. This was followed by introductions from Jin Qianlan, captain of the scientific expedition team, Yan Xinyi, representative of the climbing team, and Zheng Biao, captain of the mountaineering team, about their respective activities. This year marks the ninth year that the scientific expedition team has entered Tibet. To celebrate the 10th anniversary, they will revisit the routes taken by their predecessors, conducting on-site inspections of previously visited areas and observing the changes over time. The team members also performed their self-composed and self-written team song, "Wandering Time." The climbing team is a team of honor, and this year they have sent out their strongest lineup. It is believed that they will continue to achieve remarkable results in the competitions. The 10th anniversary of the Peak Cloud Society coincides with the 10th year of mountaineering. Over these ten years, mountaineering equipment, techniques, and spirit have developed from scratch, thanks to the efforts and dedication of successive team members, during which we have experienced so much. To celebrate the 10th anniversary, this year’s mountaineering team plans to scale Snow Dragon Top via a “dual route,” with hopes of becoming the first university team to reach the summit via the west face route. It is believed that on the occasion of the Peak Cloud 10th anniversary, and with the efforts of every team member, the three teams will add a glorious stroke to the start of this new decade.
From 2003 to 2013, the Peak Cloud Society has grown from taking its first steps to becoming mature and independent. Along the way, it has faced both storms and opportunities, as well as challenges. The arduous journey of ten years has tempered generation after generation of Peak Cloud members. Nourished by the spirit of Peak Cloud, we have grown more mature and resolute.
According to plan, the scientific expedition team will depart on the 20th; the climbing team will compete from the 26th to the 29th; the mountaineering team’s advance team will set off on the 21st, with the main team departing on the 23rd. Let us wish all three activities great success and all team members a safe return.
