Staff members are inspecting the tires of public bicycles to check for air leaks.
Starting today and over the next week, 20 technicians from out-of-province public bicycle manufacturers will join 40 maintenance workers from Taiyuan Public Bicycle Company to carry out a comprehensive inspection of all 20,000 public bicycles in the city.
At 15:00 today, at the Victory Bridge East public bicycle service station in the provincial capital, three technicians clad in raincoats were inspecting bicycles stored in the docking stations one by one. In addition to adjusting the brakes, they also focused on the overall riding condition of the bikes. A master surnamed Chang told reporters that every part of the bicycles—from the handlebars and pedals to the stands—was thoroughly examined. Any issues found were promptly repaired. “The current rental usage is extremely high, reaching nearly 10 million rides per month,” said a relevant official from Taiyuan Bus Public Bicycle Service Company. Recently, the usage rate of public bicycles has been climbing steadily. As of the 16th, Taiyuan has opened 863 service stations, with a single-day peak of 362,300 rides and a cumulative total of 41.591 million rides.
The official stated that, in response to the current high volume of bike usage, the company has specially invited 20 technicians from out-of-province bicycle manufacturers. Over the course of a week, these technicians will form maintenance teams with the company’s 40 maintenance workers—three members per team—to conduct thorough inspections of all bicycles at the currently operational public bicycle service stations.
The official added, “In addition to providing specialized training for Taiyuan’s maintenance staff by the manufacturer’s technicians, this initiative also aims to help them gain deeper hands-on experience with repair techniques through actual maintenance work.”
