128 polar exploration enthusiasts recently embarked on an Arctic adventure aboard the world’s most powerful nuclear-powered icebreaker, the 50 Years of Victory. This also marks the 100th time humans have landed at 90°N by icebreaker.
In 1977, the Soviet icebreaker Arktika first broke through the ice and sailed to the North Pole. Thirty-six years later, China’s first “expert in polar expeditions,” the polar travel agency Bestway’s “North Pole Icebreaker Journey,” also set sail on a fully equipped voyage. The Bestway North Pole exploration team consisted of just 128 people, departing from the Russian port of Murmansk, sailing through the Barents Sea to the Arctic Archipelago, and all the way to the North Pole. As an “expert in polar expeditions,” Bestway has always emphasized the protection of the ecological environment and public welfare initiatives in the Arctic and Antarctic following global climate change. This expedition specially arranged knowledge lectures on the Arctic’s culture, history, flora and fauna, and ecological changes to enhance participants’ awareness of environmental conservation and deepen their understanding of the Arctic region.
