Last updated 2026-11-08 — After reading everyone’s great discussion on national quality, civic etiquette, and outdoor etiquette, I had a rare free Saturday and didn’t go out showing off. I really wanted to reply to a few posts, but seeing how long my reply would be, I figured it’d take ages to get approved—so I just started this thread. After reading everyone’s great discussion on national quality, civic etiquette, and outdoor etiquette, I had a rare free Saturday and didn’t go out showing off. I really wanted to reply to a few posts, but seeing how long my reply would be, I figured it’d take ages to get approved—so I just started this thread.

Regarding the discussion on national quality, I’ll continue with the replies I intended to make.

Just imagine a race that has been chattering about the Three Obediences and Four Virtues since wearing leaf clothing, evolving from eating raw meat to becoming civilized, with bloodlines flowing with thousands of years of “Long Live the Emperor” genes. From the uncivilized fringes to all corners of the land, just look at the servility in the imperial capital—uncle Columbus and aunt North Face everywhere in neighborhoods: “I have a daughter who’s just blossomed, hidden away in the deep boudoirs of Ershang. If you ask what Ershang is, it’s a badass state-owned dragon.” The reality? A cashier at Jinwuxing, a workshop worker at the Imperial Capital Ceramics Factory, and even that factory was acquired by a Japanese company that patriots love to hate. You can be ordinary, but don’t act high and mighty.

Moving on to the next point,

From minor fender-benders while walking the streets, to economic-use guys jumping out of their cars, from joint-venture brands dissing domestic ones, four-wheelers dissing electric two-wheelers, electric dissing human-powered, and even among human-powered bikes, there’s a hierarchy. Any little incident inevitably turns into an argument over status, where knockoffs are trash, and fixed-gear bikes are better than your kid’s school-run bike.BMCIt’s all about looking down on this or that brand, then hollering at pedestrians while driving cars, Didi rides, or bikes. Even pedestrians in the way get shouted at: “What are you blocking the road for...?”

Moving on to the second point,

Every time I flag down a taxi and get in or out, I always greet the driver and chat a bit. The more I talk, the more I hear how they see themselves as true sons of the Inner City, with ancestors who...XXwereXXimperial officials, but now feel life hasn’t gone their way. That sense of imbalance and resentment, mixed into the bureaucratic and old-Beijing style of life, creates a blatant buildup of negativity.

Moving on to the third point,

China has developed to this point through many trials,6Kand while longstanding habits and mindsets are hard to change, just look at how some other countries have evolved in modern times—Korea moving its capital, the U.S. categorizing states by national importance. But in China, politics, economy, culture, and even retirement all get crammed into Beijing. It looks like even the Sixth Ring Road can’t contain all these...12345various “types.” The economic and cultural differences between north and south are huge, and it hasn’t been that long since we emerged from the chaotic reckonings of the...80era discussions. Imagine in another...20years, southern groups will no longer heed the commands of the great north. Regional differences and ideologies will accelerate divergence, and it won’t just be Beijing being exclusionary anymore.

Moving on to the fourth point,

Beijing’s housing prices are rising faster than China’s Shenzhou spacecraft upgrades—could this also be called “China speed”? The government says it spends a huge amount of manpower, material resources, and money every year to create better living environments, but let’s see who’s actually snatching up these premium resources: top officials and their second and third generations, even the yet-to-be-developed fourth generation, local officials retiring here, wealthy associates tied to these officials, private business owners, corporate executives, all kinds of “people’s artists,” singers, dancers, magicians, crosstalk performers, and even some really bizarre cats and dogs. Even Xu Ri Yang Gang gets to stroll into fancy residential compounds in Fengtai.A8I think if AV idol Akiho Yoshizawa had paid attention to the Chinese market earlier, there might’ve been a chance for many “Chinese neighbors” to be born.

Then there are Wenzhou real estate speculators, coal bosses, “house sisters” and “house aunts.” After they’ve taken their cut, the remaining resources are limited, so of course they think it’s only right to take care of the old Beijingers. So go ahead, unfold your map—outsiders can pick their slice of the Imperial City dream. It’s an international fashion capital, a cultural hub, a tech center, an economic powerhouse, crawling with Wang Feis, Huang Xiaomings, Davids, Jameses, Obamas, and brands with names you can’t even begin to understand in under half a minute.3DPrinters seem to be hidden in any random Dinghao shop counter in Zhongguancun, and shouting loudly under any overpass could trigger an earthquake in the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets. In the end, all you need to do is take the RMB you’ve saved over three generations of family life to plan your life and your future70in this vast city of Beijing—the place where you’ll spend the next however many years. You’ll find that your only options are places near the Party-government-military-artist hubs, or discounted sales near Louis Vuitton’s China flagship, conveniently located...5close to a ring road entrance, making it easy to get into Beijing. Alright,an economic-use guy goes for...First round , GO.

Five,

As for the illogical, loosely connected nature of speech, you can’t blame me...SeveralMy term as class rep for Chinese in year [number missing] didn’t go so well—my talent only goes this far. Sending this to kill the weekend, right around lunchtime. Actually, not bad.
