The 2013 "Lifan" Loushan Qigu Cup Fifth China Guizhou Zunyi Mount Louguan "Hailongtun International Mountain Outdoor Sports Challenge" officially ended after the Hailongtun–Mount Louguan stage on September 13. Contestants arrived early at the Hailongtun parking lot by bus, took a brief rest, and the race commenced promptly at 9:00 AM. The athletes set off again from the Hailongtun parking lot, hiking up to the summit of Hailongtun. After retrieving their maps at Chaotian Pass, they checked in and began a 7-kilometer orienteering race. Despite the scorching weather and intense sunlight, nothing could dampen the participants’ enthusiasm as they pressed on toward the next checkpoint along rugged mountain paths.
After completing the orienteering, the Kolumb (Golonbu) Outdoor Team members moved on to the mountain biking segment. This stage covered a total of 45 kilometers, starting from the Hailongtun parking lot and ending at the Mount Louguan parking lot. The route was rugged, with sharp turns and steep slopes, posing a significant test of both the athletes' endurance and biking skills. Thule Adventure Team, who had secured first place the previous day, maintained their leading advantage throughout the entire biking leg. Along the mountain biking route, contestants also participated in fun challenges such as "muddy fishing" and "fire drilling." In Sidu Town, upon arriving at the competition site, all three team members entered the fishpond to start catching fish. Each team had to catch three fish and place them in a bucket nearby to complete the challenge. No tools were allowed—participants had to rely solely on their hands. After the first team finished, others arrived one after another, and as the number of participants increased, the water in the pond grew murky, making the task considerably harder. The athletes tried every possible method to catch the fish.
After completing the fishing challenge, contestants headed to the next event: "fire drilling." The first team to arrive carried their bikes and the fire-drilling tools provided by the organizers to the designated spot and began drilling for fire. Fire drilling is an essential survival skill, which is why the organizers introduced this event this year. Most participants faced considerable difficulty, struggling to produce even a spark despite their best efforts. Only a few teams managed to successfully create fire. Once this challenge was completed, contestants mounted their bikes again and pedaled toward the final point of the biking leg—the Mount Louguan parking lot. There, they were required to take a mandatory 15-minute rest before switching gear and heading toward the final destination of the competition: the Mount Louguan Viewing Platform.
The cross-country run was the last event of the challenge. Teams had to hike on foot from the Mount Louguan parking lot all the way up to the mountaintop. Although two days of racing had left the athletes somewhat fatigued, they summoned all their remaining energy to push toward the finish line as the end neared. Amid applause from the crowd, we saw the first team to reach the endpoint of the challenge—Thule Adventure Team—who had also been the first to reach the summit of Hailongtun on the first day. They were quickly followed by Zubo Sports Team and the Columbus Outdoor Team as they dashed toward the finish. By 3:30 PM that afternoon, the two-day, approximately 102-kilometer-long 2013 "Lifan. Loushan Qigu Cup" Fifth China Guizhou Zunyi Mount Louguan. Hailongtun International Mountain Outdoor Sports Challenge had officially come to a close.
After two days of fierce competition, the Kolumb (Golonbu) Outdoor Team secured an impressive international fourth and domestic first place. Congratulations to them!
